Volunteers Needed at Historic Stubblefield Cemetery

Volunteers are needed to assist with the clearing of downed wood at the historic Stubblefield Cemetery to prepare the ground for mowing, in order to allow exploration by ground-sensing technologies to determine where burials are in this important graveyard.

Considerable work has been done there the past several weeks by a few volunteers, and an Eagle Scout project has cleared the vegetation around the Stubblefield family compound, where we are planning to restore the wall.

Current Phase II restrictions allow us to have six volunteers at the cemetery at one time, observing appropriate social distancing. We’ve reopened the old cemetery road after reinstalling a culvert in the ditch along Foster Road with a county permit, and reopening the cemetery gates, which we’re in the process of replacing, so volunteers are now able to drive to the cemetery itself.
